Festival
As we know, there are many ethnic in our country, Malaysia. As a result, there are many celebrations for each's ethnic festival. As a Malaysian, I feel very happy and proud of that because I can celebrate many festivals every year with different ethnic's friends. Each festival represents different ethnic's culture. Through these festivals, I can learn about other ethnic's culture. So, what are the festival that celebrate in Malaysia???  I will discuss four main festival that celebrate among the three major ethnics which are Malay, Chinese and Indian. Let we discuss here....


a) New Year's Day
New year's day is national public holiday. Usually, the urban community in Malaysia   celebrate  New Year's Eve. There are many activities held in various states such as sporting events, competitions, exhibitions and cultural performance by Malaysian multi-ethnic groups.

b) Hari Raya Aidil Fitri
Hari Raya Aidil Fitri also called as Hari Raya Puasa.It is a joyous occasion for all Muslims in Malaysia. The celebration is determined by sighting of the new moon.After praying at mosque in the morning,the Muslims will visit to the graves with their family members to pay respects.Besides that, they will organise open house or invitation for their relatives and friends to come their house and celebrate with them. There are plenty of traditional Malay delicious are served during the festive season.
 
c) Deepavali
Deepavali is celebrated during the 7th month of the Hindu calendar. Indian believe that Deepavali celebrates the triumph of good over evil, when Lord Krishna defeated Narkansura. In the morning, oil baths are taken before donning new clothes and paying a visit to the temple. As Malay,Indian also organise the open houses during Deepavali so that their friends can join the celebrations by visiting the homes of Hindu friends and relatives to extend good wishes in the jollity.                                                      



 

d) Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is celebrated over a periods of 15 days, starting from the first day of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Chinese New Year is the most important annual festival for the Chinese community. The celebration is celebrated with abundance of delicacies, family gatherings and the lighting of fire crakers at midnight. Ang Paws or red packets of money are given to the young and unmarried while the symbol of prosperity,the mandarin orange is liberally consumed. Houses are cleaned and decorated to prepare for the big day. On that day, Chinese will wear the new clothes. They believe red colour which is vividly displayed in many homes will bring the 'prosperity' and 'luck' to them. The
traditional dragon and lion dances herald in the new year, admist banging gongs and drums.
